ISLAMABAD, Sept 16: Chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff Admiral Michael Mullen arrived in Islamabad on Tuesday on an unannounced visit to discuss the security situation and the war against terror amid a controversy over stepped-up US incursions inside Pakistan’s territory.
Admiral Mullen has visited Pakistan several times but this is his first visit after Asif Ali Zardari assumed the office of president.
Officials told Dawn that Admiral Mullen would meet Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani, Chief of the Army Staff General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani and Prime Minister’s Chief Security Adviser Mahmood Ali Durrani and discuss the operations being conducted in border areas.
They said US Defence Secretary Robert Gates, who is currently in Afghanistan, might also come to Pakistan on Wednesday.
