SOA finally holds meeting next month

By Anwar Zuberi

KARACHI, Sept 16: The general body of the Sindh Olympic Association (SOA), which has not met after its elections held some eight months back, meets on Oct 10 to settle the backlog.

Earlier, it was supposed to meet in the city on Aug 29 to dispose of a 12-point agenda but the meeting was postponed due to pre-occupation of its president who also holds the portfolio of Sindh Minister for Sports.

According to a circular, the agenda for the meeting however, remains unchanged.

Meanwhile, the postponement has raised quite a few eyebrows and the officials of some 30 plus provincial sports bodies are unhappy with the move.

Their immediate worry is preparations for the Nov 9-13 third Inter-provincial games which are being held in Peshawar.

“Setting up a camp needs enormous money for which we are waiting since long,” said an official on condition of anonymity.

The games are restricted to men and women below the age of 25 years who should not be employees of any department and should not have played for any department in the past.

To be featured by athletes from Sindh, Punjab, Balochistan and hosts NWFP, the games will be held in the following disciplines.

Men: athletics, badminton, baseball, boxing, cycling, football, hockey, judo, kabaddi, karate, squash, swimming, table tennis, tae kwondo, volleyball, weightlifting, wrestling and wushu.

Women: athletics, badminton, baseball, cycling, judo, squash, swimming, table tennis and volleyball.
