Time and space

WE as a nation do not seem to value time. An example of this is that many of the clocks put up during the colonial era are in ramshackle condition. This correspondent, on a long stroll, visited five such clocks (pictured here in a clockwise direction) and saw that the clock at the Eduljee Dinshaw Dispensary in Saddar did not even have a dial; though the clocks on the Sindh Madressahtul Islam tower had both glasses and hands, the clocks were not working and showed different times; the dials and hands of the clocks of the Lea Market tower were broken and missing; the dials of the clocks at Empress Market in Saddar were also broken and did not have hands while the clock at the Max Denso Hall and Library building on M.A. Jinnah Road was not working.—Text and photos by Bhagwandas
