KARACHI: Young boy found strangled

KARACHI, Sept 16: The body of an unknown young boy was found on Tuesday at a desolate place near Northern Bypass.

Mauripur police said the body was lying in the bushes near Northern Bypass grid station.

It was shifted to the Civil Hospital for a postmortem examination.

Sources at the medico-legal department said the victim boy, who appeared to be eight to 10 years old, was strangled.

They said a drawstring was also found around the neck of the victim, who was clad in an off-white shalwar-qamees.

The Mauripur police registered a murder case (FIR 245/08) against unknown culprits on behalf of the state.

The body was later kept at the Edhi Morgue for want of identification.

Suspect killed in shootout

A suspected dacoit was killed and his alleged accomplice injured and arrested following a shootout with Jauharabad police.

The police said that two dacoits were spotted near Farzana Dawakhana in Block-9 of Federal B Area by a police mobile van patrolling the locality.

They said the dacoits tried to escape under the cover of firing, but the police party retaliated and hit both the suspects.

The police said the two suspects were wounded, one of them fatally, and they were shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.

They said the fatally wounded suspect died on way to hospital.

The suspects remained unidentified we went to press.

Tension grips Majeed Colony

Tension gripped Majeed Colony, a neighbourhood in Quaidabad, after an injured worker of the Sunni Tehrik died.

The police said the ST workers took to the streets in the locality and resorted to firing into the air following the death of Mohammed Ali, who had been shot and critically wounded by unknown attackers four days ago.The witnesses said traffic remained jammed for an hour near Quadiabad on the National Highway due to the protest.

A heavy contingent of police reached the affected area and brought the situation under control.

17kgs hashish seized

The Site police arrested a drug peddler and seized from him 17 kilograms of hashish.

The police said the suspect, identified as Shahid Ali, son of Bakht Raj, was arrested in Pathan Colony.

They said the suspect was booked in the case (FIR 565/08) under Section 6/9-C of the anti-narcotics act.
