KARACHI, Sept 16: Three people, including a man and his son, were killed on Tuesday in separate traffic accidents in different parts of the city, police and witnesses said.
They said a 35-year-old woman was killed and her two nieces, both married, were injured when they were hit by a fast-moving car near Jail Chowrangi on the University Road.
The police said the unidentified driver of the Suzuki Alto car (AJR-8792) ran away abandoning his vehicle.
The body and the injured women were shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre where the deceased woman was identified as Hafeeeza Begum, wife of Jamil Ahmed Solangi, and her injured nieces as Rukhsana, wife of Rizwan, 30, and Amna, wife of Hafeez, 25.
Witnesses said the three women, residents of Ghausia Colony near Central Prison, were crossing the road at around 5.30pm when the fast-moving car hit them. They said the car driver ran away immediately after the incident leaving behind his vehicle.
The police said the three women were house maids and were returning home after their work.
The police impounded the Alto car and said that efforts were on to track down the driver.
Two killed
A 30-year-old disabled man and his 10-year-old son were killed on Tuesday when a fast-moving trailer hit their tricycle in Site, police and witnesses said.
They said the disabled man and his son died instantly in the accident that occurred five minutes before Iftar near Labour Square.
The bodies were shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where the handicapped victim was identified as Raja, son of Gangoli, a resident of Lane No 9, Kachra Kundi Chowk, a shantytown in Rasheedabad, Baldia Town.
The name of the victim’s son was not immediately known as the police were still making efforts to locate the family.
The SHO of Site, Inspector Rao Mohammed Rafique, told Dawn that the police had arrested the trailer driver, Wazir Ahmed, son of Abdul Khaliq, immediately after the accident.
The witnesses said the pair’s vehicle crashed into the pavement and was completely damaged after the fast-moving trailer collided with it.
They said the people pulled the victims from the wrecked tricycle before the rescue workers of the Edhi Trust and police reached the spot.
The witnesses said the people caught the driver and gave him a hiding before they handed him over to the police.
