BUNER: Two suicide jackets, explosives recovered

By Our Correspondent

BUNER, Sept 16: The Buner police claimed on Tuesday to have foiled a sabotage bid and seized two suicide jackets from suspected militants.

According to sources the Buner police, after getting information that five suicide bombers were about to enter the district, beefed up security and erected barricades on various entry points to the district.

The sources said the police intercepted a suspected car with three persons on board at Karakar checkpost, between Swat and Buner districts, and asked them for body and vehicle search. One of them disembarked from the car along with a white coloured sack while the other two reversed the car and started firing shots on the police. The two fled away in the car after police returned fire. The third passenger, while taking advantage of the encounter, dropped the bag and also fled from the scene.

The police called the bomb disposal squad which recovered two suicide vest coats from the sack. Police said the militants had planned suicide attacks in the district but due to their timely action the terror bid was foiled.

Meanwhile, two packets of explosives, 25 kg each, were recovered from fields in Malakpur area, in the jurisdiction of Pirbaba police station, late on Tuesday.

The Pirbaba police, on a tip-off that two packets of suspected material were lying in the open fields, rushed to the site and recovered the explosive.
