IJT launches ‘Down with America’ drive

By Our Staff Reporter

LAHORE, Sept 15: The Islami Jamiat Tulaba (IJT) has announced launching a country-wide “Down with America Campaign” from Sept 18 against increasing incursion of American forces in Pakistan.

The announcement was made by IJT Nazim-i-Aala Attiqueur Rehman while speaking at a news conference at the Lahore Press Club here on Monday.

Attique said the United States had destroyed world peace in the name of war against terror. Now, he said, it was infiltrating in Pakistan by launching attacks in tribal areas.

In order to create awareness among the youth, he said, the IJT had decided launching the “Down with America Campaign”.

Giving details of the campaign, he said, the IJT would observe Youm-i-Badr on Sept 18, wherein lectures would be organised in educational institutions throughout Pakistan. It would also put up banners and wall charts on major roads and thoroughfares. He said the IJT would observe a protest day against American air-strikes on Sept 23 by holding protest demonstrations and hanging effigy of US President George W. Bush.

He said hundreds of students would send postcards to the president and prime minister about American dictation in Pakistan’s interior and foreign policies. The students would also submit a signed memorandum against American attacks with the United States Embassy in Islamabad.

On Oct 13, he said, a national conference would be organised in Islamabad, in which representatives of all political, religious and student organisations would participate.

He said students courts would be set up on educational institutions on Oct 14 and debates would be held on Oct 15 while “Down with America” rallies would be organised at all divisional headquarters on Oct 16.
