PARACHINAR: Four killed in attack on Kurram peace meeting

By Our Correspondent

PARACHINAR, Sept 15: At least four people were killed and three other suffered injuries when Mangal tribesmen attacked the Peewar area in upper Kurram tribal region on Monday.

Sources said that the attack was conducted as the tribal elders and political administration were trying to defuse the situation. They said that the Mangals’ attack left four tribesmen dead and three others wounded.

They said that the combatants belonging to the Bangash and Tori tribes had vacated their positions and bunkers in many parts of lower and upper Kurram agency on Monday.

The security forces were deployed at the bunkers after the local authorities and the tribal elders geared up efforts to restore peace in the tribal region.

Political Agent Mohammad Azam Khan told Dawn that efforts were underway to bring the warring tribes to the negotiating table to restore lasting peace in the troubled agency.

He said that the road from Thall to Parachinar would be reopened soon and the electricity and telephone problems would be resolved on priority basis.
