HYDERABAD: ‘Coordination between police wings missing’

By Our Staff Correspondent

HYDERABAD, Sept 15: The Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Hyderabad zone, Sanaullah Abbasi, has said that non-incorporation of relevant FIRs and lack of coordination between prosecution branch and investigation wing of police are the main reasons for low percentage of convictions in criminal cases.

He was presiding over a meeting of district public prosecutors in his office here on Sunday. He briefed the officials that main reason for holding of this meeting is to ensure that relevant sections of FIRs should be incorporated in FIRs and proper challans are submitted in the concerned courts to get the accused convicted.

He said that it was for this reason that for the last several days a campaign had been launched to see the reason as to why the percentage of conviction showed a decline in the criminal cases in courts. He said that in this connection meetings were being regularly held on first and 15th of every month.

“It has been revealed in the recent study that failure on the part of police to incorporate relevant sections of law and lack of coordination between prosecution branch and investigation wing of police are main causes of low percentage of conviction”, he said.

He emphasised the need for submission of transparent and effective challans and added that coordinated efforts are required on the part of prosecution branch and investigation wing so that cases should be prepared properly.
