Saeed’s lone goal gives Gharib Nawaz first PLF win

By Our Sports Reporter

KARACHI, Sept 14: A lone goal scored through Mohammad Saeed’s solo effort in the 90th minute of the match got Gharib Nawaz Dalmia their first KASB Premier League Football (PLF) win at the CDGK Stadium on Saturday night.

The clash of two evenly-matched teams — Gharib Nawaz Dalmia and Usmanabad Union — produced brilliant play from both sides although the match remained barren for almost the entire duration time.

Gharib Nawaz’s strikers Mohammad Saeed, Ghulam Akbar and Nawaz Ali wasted several opportunities to score as all their tries went off target.

Meanwhile, Usmanabad Union’s strikers Nur Bakhsh, Imran Sr and Liaquat Hussain too failed to produce any positive results. Then Gharib Nawaz’s goalkeeper Raja Ijaz and Usmanabad Union’s goalkeeper Mohammad Ibrahim also managed to block just about everything, which came their way.

It was only in the final moments of the match that Gharib Nawaz’s substitute striker Zubair Ahmed gave a well-timed pass to fellow striker Mohammad Saeed who then advanced along with it into the penalty box to finally send the ball past keeper Ibrahim.

Having played four matches each, Gharib Nawaz now have four points from this win and an earlier draw while Usmanabad have one point from one draw and three losses.
