Shujaat rejects backdoor political tactics

By Our Staff Reporter

ISLAMABAD, Sept 14: Pakistan Muslim League-Q president Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain said on Sunday that his party was not part of any conspiracy to destabilise the Punjab government.

Talking to reporters at his residence before leaving for Beijing at the invitation of the Communist Party of China, he said: “We have always been in the government after winning elections and we will not seek ministries through underhand tactics.”

He said the PML-Q was in talks with all parties, including the PPP and PML-N, but had taken no decision so far about supporting anyone of them.

He, however, made it clear that his party would continue to play the role of a responsible opposition and would support every good work of the government and oppose anything harmful for democracy and the country.

Talking about defections from his party in the presidential poll, he said that due to coercion some of members of his party had voted against the PML-Q candidate but it did not mean that they had left the party, adding that they will soon rejoin their party.”

He denied reports that the party would change its leader of opposition in the Senate due to the recent setback. “Kamil Ali Agha will continue in his position,” he said.

The PML-Q leader called upon all politicians (without naming his arch political rivals — the Sharifs) to unite on one platform to avert the threat the country was facing.
