TIMERGARA, Sept 14: District Coordination Officer Ghulam Mohammad has said anti-polio campaign should be launched in the district after the detection of polio cases in the neighboring Swat district and Bajaur tribal region.

Talking to Dawn on Sunday, he said that arrangements had been finalised for the three-day campaign again polio, which would be launched on Monday. During the drive, about 200,000 children would be administered polio drops, he said.

He said that relief camps had been set up for the internally displaced persons of Bajaur where their number was continuously increasing. He said that children from Bajaur living in camps would be also immunised.

He said 540 mobile teams, eight CSPs and eight DHTs teams had been formed with 110 areas in charges. The DCO said the administration was fully backing the health department and every effort would be made to make the campaign a success.

He said health department workers would also visit IDPs camps in the district so that no child in these camps could be left without vaccination. The DCO appealed to religious scholars and elders of the area to extend their cooperation to the health department during the three-day campaign.

Our Correspondent adds from Ghalanai: Over 100,000 children below five years of age would be administered polio vaccine during the immunisation campaign starting in the Mohmand Agency on Monday.

Officials said that about 395 mobile and 10 transit teams had been formed to carry out the anti-polio campaign.

Assistant Political Agent Baizai Mohammad Roshan Mehsud told a training session of polio teams that the administration would extend all possible help to the health teams to make the drive successful.

He urged ulema, tribal elders and social and welfare organisations to extend cooperation to the polio teams, so that no child below five years of age was left out from being covered during the vaccination campaign.
