Four killed in Australian helicopter crash

SYDNEY, Sept 14: Four people died in a helicopter crash on Sunday in Western Australia’s remote Kimberly region, police said.

A male helicopter pilot and three female passengers were killed when the helicopter crashed and burst into flames in the Bungle National Park about 1pm (0600GMT), police said.

Police said the accident happened 10 kilometres from the Bellburn air strip near Argyle, the site of a major diamond mine and a popular destination for international tourists.

Further details about the crash victims were not available. Police said air crash investigators were at the scene.

The crash sparked a large bushfire but emergency authorities said it was not threatening any population centres and they hoped to have it under control soon.—AFP
