Hurricane Jaffar lands win for Star XI

KARACHI, Sept 13: Southpaw Jaffar Qureshi hoisted a record nine sixes in his whirlwind knock of 83 as Star XI beat hosts Karachi Gymkhana by 43 runs in the 23rd Karachi Gymkhana Twenty20 Ramazan cricket tournament at the KG Ground on Friday.

Jaffar was in an attacking mood from the outset, tearing apart Gymkhana’s bowling attack with massive hitting. Besides striking nine sixes, Jaffar hit three boundaries while consuming mere 38 balls.

Wasim Naeem hammered nine boundaries in his 49 off 26 balls and Arshad Azam made 34 with two fours and a six as Star XI, batting first, amassed 205 for six in the allotted 20 overs, also becoming the first team to cross the 200 mark in the tournament.

Karachi Gymkhana, in reply, could manage to reach 162-6 in their 20 overs. Hasan Raza slammed six fours in his 42 and Azhar Khan got 42 with the help of four fours and a six.

Jaffar Qureshi, who also took a wicket, was named man-of-the-match.
