KARACHI: Complainant testifies in murder case

KARACHI, Sept 13: An anti-terrorism court on Saturday recorded the statement of a complainant in a kidnapping and murder case.

Two men and a woman have been indicted on charges of kidnapping and killing their relative, Mohsin, in October 2007 in the case.

According to the prosecution, the accused, Shahzad, Ms Shadab, and Babar kidnapped Mohsin, an uncle of Ms Shadab’s, on October 23, 2007 in the Super Market police station limits. They allegedly collected Rs1 million as ransom from the victim’s family. Instead of releasing him, they killed the captive.

The body was later found and the accused were arrested on Feb 2, 2008. A case was registered under Sections 365-A and 302/34 of the Pakistan Penal Code at the Super Market police station.

The complainant, Syed Zafar Ali, brother of the victim, testified that he and his deceased brother had some domestic disputes with Ms Shadab that ultimately led to the murder of his brother.

The court put off the hearing till Sept 16.

Meanwhile, a civil judge and judicial magistrate, East, recorded the statement of a victim, Farooq Ahmed Siddiqui, under Section 164 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) in a kidnap for ransom case. The victim also identified the accused, Yaseen Ghani.
