PFF approves PEL’s change of venue

LAHORE, Sept 11: The Pakistan Football Federation (PFF) has accepted Pak Elektron’s (PEL) request to change the venue for two of the their Pakistan Premier Football League (PPFL) matches to be played in Lahore after Eidul Fitr.

The 182-match event featuring 14 teams will see all teams playing a total number of 26 matches on a home and away basis. PEL had picked up Railways Stadium for eight of their home matches and Raiders FC Ground (Faisal Town) for the other five.

The Raiders FC’s turf that hosted the PEL-KRL tie, was later on rejected by Match Commissioner Chaudhry Muhammad Asghar and PEL had to welcome Pakistan Army and Pakistan Navy in a hurriedly-arranged alternate venue in the shape of the Model Town Football Academy (MTFA) Ground.

PEL’s authorities termed the MTFA Ground lucky for their campaign in reaching A-Division Soccer last year and according to the revised schedule they will play their home matches against Afghan FC (Nov 2, 2008) and KESC (Nov 5, 2008) at the MTFA Ground.

PEL, under the captaincy of Ijaz Sarfraz, is currently eighth in the table with 16 points from 13 games. They managed only four wins, having defeated KESC against all odds at Karachi and completing a double over Faisalabad’s Punjab Medical College. Their other win was against under-dogs PTV who are currently at the bottom with 10 straight defeats.—APP
