GUJRANWALA, Sept 11: Shopkeepers and traders thrashed members of a raiding party, including a magistrate, for imposing fines on selling commodities at prices higher than fixed by the government in Wahando on Thursday.
According to a report reaching here, a group of citizens complained to the DCO that shopkeepers were charging fancy prices.
On the direction of the DCO, price magistrate Mian Nazir Ahmad along with his staff checked about 20 shops in the main bazaars and fined them on the spot for overcharging.
In the meantime, more shopkeepers and traders gathered there and thrashed the magistrate and his staff with clubs, kicks and fists.
On the report of the price magistrate, police registered a case against 50 shopkeepers, including 15 nominated. While police were conducting raids at the residences and shops for the arrest of the accused.
WIDOW’S PLEA: A widow, whose young son was killed in a police encounter a few days ago, moved a local court on Thursday to get registered a murder case against the accused policemen.
Petitioner Kaneez Bibi told the court that her son Taj Din was on his way along with his friend by a motorcycle when a police party intercepted him and fired at him after an exchange of harsh words. He died while being taken to the local DHQ Hospital.
She said the police showed that her son was killed in an encounter and registered a case against him of keeping illicit weapons.
She requested the court to order registration of a murder case against the responsible policemen.
Petitioner’s counsel Riaz Hinjra informed the court that deceased Taj Din was killed by Sabzi Mandi police on GT Road on Aug 21 when he was going to his factory.
Judge Rana Nisar Ahmad Khan issued notices to the Sabzi Mandi policemen to appear before court in the next date of hearing.
FARE LIST: The Regional Transport Authority (RTA), Gujranwala, notified on Thursday the bus fares at the ratio of 74 paisa per kilometer on inter-city routes.
According to the notification, the fare from Gujranwala to Lahore will be Rs57.72, Gujranwala to Sialkot via Sambrial Rs45.88, Gujranwala to Sheikhupura Rs48.54, Gujranwala to Gujrat Rs35.52, Gujranwala to Pasrur Rs43.66, Gujranwala to Hafizabad Rs36.28, Gujranwala to Wahando Rs25.90, Wazirabad to Alipur Chattha Rs31.82, Gujranwala to Ahmad Nagar Rs24.42 and Sialkot to Shakargarh via Zafarwal Rs58.46.
SHOT DEAD: A landlord was shot dead by his rivals on Gondalwala Road here on Thursday.
Reports said Shaukat Javed of Wadala Sundhawan was on his way when accused Muzzamil, Allah Ditta, Habibullah, Sajid Ali, Abid Ali and others intercepted him and shot him to death.
KILLED: A minor boy was killed and two others sustained serious injuries when the roof of their house collapsed on them in Kamoki on Thursday.
Reports reaching here said that Amin died on the spot while other family members were rushed to the Civil Hospital in a critical condition.
