THATTA, Sept 11: Members of the Sindh Chief Minister’s Inspection Team (CMIT) reached here on Wednesday to conduct inquiries into the alleged corruption in the development schemes.

The members of the team included Deputy Director Technical, Mr Allah Rakhio Kallo, Deputy Director Accounts, Syed Ahmed Shah and Deputy Director Regulation, Khalil Ahmed Bablani.

The inspection team will stay at Thatta for 15 days and inspect the development works carried out by the district government from 2005 to 2008.

The CMIT members’ visit has created a stir among the union council nazims and officials as there are many complaints of alleged corruption in the development works.

DISTRICT COUNCIL: Thatta district council, which met here on Wednesday under the chairmanship of convener, Iqbal Moosa Chandio, adopted a resolution congratulating Mr Asif Ali Zardari on his election as the president of Pakistan.

The resolution was moved by the district nazim, Syed Shafqat Hussain Shah Shirazi which was adopted by the house.

The council also approved payment of salaries to the employees including 1120 NCHD employees for the month of August amounting to Rs6.78 million.

The contract of 300 teachers and other employees under the SDSSP was also extended by one year.

UREA: The farmers of Thatta district have expressed resentment over the meager supply of urea fertiliser to them by the district administration.

Under the supervision of government officials, each farmer of Ghorabari, Mirpur Sakro, Thatta, Sujawal and other areas was given only five bags of fertiliser which is insufficient for their crops.

The growers said that at least 20 bags were required for 10 acres of land and added that the supply of five bags was a cruel joke with them.

ROBBERY: Officials of Thatta Cement Company Limited were deprived of Rs1 million saving certificates, Rs50,000 cash and mobile phones in a highway robbery on Wednesday.

According to reports, the accounts officer of the company Mr Nizamuddin Khwaja and four employees who were going in the company’s cash van, were intercepted by four armed persons on Ghulamullah road, Makli and deprived them of saving certificates, cash and mobile phones at gun point. Makli police have registered an FIR against the unidentified robbers.
