Tourney dates clash with Eid holidays
LAHORE, Sept 10: The forthcoming national Twenty20 cricket tournament, starting from Oct 4, is clashing with the Eid-ul-Fitr holidays and will also affect Pakistan’s Oct 10-13 tour of Canada for a four-nation Twenty-20 tournament.
As Eid-ul-Fitr is likely to fall either on Oct 1 or 2, it looks impossible for players to prepare themselves for the national T20 event which concludes on Oct 8.
PCB official Zakir Khan said the dates of the Canadain tour had been decided in August and the domestic wing were in a better position to answer about the dates of the national event.
PCB’s Governing Board domestic committee member Shakil Sheikh told Dawn that due to the tight domestic schedule, there was no other spare date for the T20 Cup. He said the domestic committee had decided that in future the domestic schedule would be followed strictly. He expressed hope that Eid would fall on Oct 1 so that the players get enough time before the Canadian event.—Sports Reporter
