MIANWALI, Sept 10: Teachers in the district on Wednesday called off their strike and announced resumption of classes at all the state-run institutions from Thursday (today).
The teachers took the decision after a meeting with District Coordination Officer Tariq Zaman who assured them that EDO (Education) Mushtaq Husain Khan Baloch would be transferred from Mianwali, and the transfer of 51 SSTs to the ranks of headmasters/headmistresses in the elementary schools would be cancelled.
Besides, the teachers also called for cancellation of transfer of Khalid Masood, the Government Elementary Teachers Association president, to which the DCO agreed.
The DCO assured the teacher leaders that all their demands would be accepted, urging them to concentrate on their jobs.
The teachers’ associations have been agitating against the EDO whom they accused of pressuring the principals of the Government Comprehensive High School and the Central Model High School to admit some students to classes VI and IX. To register their protest, the teachers got the schools closed for three days.
