Husband booked for murdering wife

By Our Staff Reporter

ISLAMABAD, Sept 10: Aabpara police have registered a case against a man accused of killing his wife to misappropriate an amount of over Rs4 million.

The case was registered on the complaint of the dead woman’s brother who told the police that his sister was allegedly murdered by her husband to misappropriate Rs4.6 million.

M.A. was found dead and her husband M.Y. semi-conscious in their house in Sector G-7/3-4 on Tuesday.

Preliminary investigation suggested that the woman worked at a stock exchange as a broker and had invested Rs4.6 million there, sources told Dawn.

They said she took Rs3.2 million from her relative, who was involved in property and beauty palour business, and Rs400,000 from her uncle and invested the amount in the stock market. Later the couple mortgaged their house for Rs1 million and invested the money in the market, they added

However, they suffered loss after the stock market crashed, and the lenders started demanding their money which drove them into distress. The monetary loss also disturbed their family life and they often quarreled.

The woman sought the help of federal minister of labour and manpower and met him four days ago in this regard, the sources said, adding that she had also written to the prime minister, seeking compensation for the financial loss.

A day before the incident she went to her relative’s house along with her husband. But he insulted them and held them responsible for the loss, the sources said.

The police are investigating the matter as the family of the slain woman alleged that the money was not invested in the stock exchange. They further claimed that either the money was with M.Y. or he had utilised it elsewhere.

The investigators will check the stock exchange record to find out whether the couple had invested the money there, the sources added.

The condition of M.Y. is still critical and he is not able to record his statement, the sources said.

However, in a brief talk with the police he told them that he had tried to commit suicide and not his wife.

He further said that first he tried to stab himself in the chest, but failed to do so, the sources said, adding that later he took medicines to end his life.
