Six kidnappers netted by police

GUJRANWALA, Sept 9: A graduation student, who was kidnapped for ransom, was got released by his family after paying Rs300,000 while the police later arrested six kidnappers and recovered the money and unlicensed weapons from their possession on Tuesday.

Mudassar, a BSc student of village Duburji Bagan, was on his way to home from fields when unidentified men kidnapped him and took him to an undisclosed location.

Later, they phoned his family and demanded Rs2 million for his release. However, the family got him released after paying Rs300,000 and later informed the police.

DIG Zulfikar Cheema formed a team which arrested six suspects later identified as Rashid, Khalid, Ghulam Siddiq, Shaukat, Shehzad and Gulfam.

The police also recovered Rs300,000 in cash, three unlicenced pistols, a rifle and a gun and mobile phones from their possession.

GCCI: The Gujranwala Chamber of Commerce and Industry has opposed the government’s extending the clock-forward policy till Oct 31, demanding that it should be ended by Sept 30.

At a meeting held here on Thursday, the participants claimed that the working of various departments, autonomous bodies and factories had been affected.

The manufacturers had failed to achieve the targets of products, they said, demanding that the hands of the clocks should be put back.

ACQUITTED: Anti-Terrorism Court judge Mian Muhammad Shafi has acquitted 23 people, including PML-N Kharian President Jafar Iqbal, who had taken out procession on the arrival of Mian Nawaz Sharif in the country.
