Seven SHOs served with show-cause notices

RAWALPINDI, Sept 9: Regional Police Officer (RPO) Nasir Khan Durrani on Tuesday served show-cause notices on seven station house officers (SHOs) for their poor performance. He also directed the City Police Officer (CPO) to chalk out fresh strategy to combat rising street-crimes.

He was pressing over a meeting to review crime situation. City Police Officer, Rao Mohammad Iqbal Khan, SSP Operation Maqsood Khan, SP Rawal Town, Khurram Shehzad, SP Saddar Ahmad Hasan Chohan, SP HQrs Ashfaq Anwar. DSP Legal Fida Hussain and all SDPOs of Rawalpindi district attended the meeting.

City Police Officer Rawalpindi gave the presentation about the crime in Rawalpindi district.

The notices were issued to R.A. Bazar SHO Inspector Suhail Akhtar Usman, Pirwahdai SHO Inspector Raja Shakeel Ahmad, New Town SHO Inspector Asghar Ali Goriya, Wah Cantt SHO Inspector Rana Abdul Sattar, Kahuta SHO Inspector Sardar Zulifiqar Abbasi, Kalar Syedan SHO Inspector Rana Zulifiqar and Murree SHO Inspector Faisal Saleem.

It was observed in the meeting that in the first eight months of this year 194 murder cases were reported as compared to the 153 in the same period last year.

However, a considerable decrease was witnessed in the fatal and non fatal accident during this period as 84 fatal accidents took place up to August 2008 as compared to 97 in the same period in 2007. Similarly 131 cases of non-fatal accident took place as compared to 146 in 2007.

There was a fall in robbery and burglary cases as 267 incidents of robbery and 354 incidents of burglary were reported during the current year as compared to 284 robbery and 368 burglary cases in the corresponding period last year.

Vehicle theft which was constantly increasing showed a decrease during the month of August 2008 as compared to last year. The credit of fall in the vehicle crime was given to the Anti Car Lifting Cell.

Besides expressing concern over the poor performance of SHOs, the Regional Police Officer showed his dissatisfaction over the recovery of illicit fire arms and narcotics. The position of heinous crime in all police circles of Rawalpindi district was also examined in detail and it was observed that in Murder cases decrease ratio was 54 per cent in City Circle, 40 per cent in Waris Khan Circle, 57 per cent in New Town Circle, 44 per cent in Saddar Circle, 37 per cent in Gujar Khan Circle, 55 per cent in Taxila Circle and 82 per cent in Kahuta and Murree Circles. Similarly in robbery and dacoity cases, City Circle showed 45 per cent reduction, Waris Khan Circle 48 per cent, New Town Circle 42 per cent, Kahuta 73 per cent, Saddar Circle 19 per cent, Gujar Khan Circle 21 per cent and Taxila 38 per cent.

In August, 277 proclaimed offenders and 543 court absconders were arrested. Regional Police Officer, Rawalpindi Region has showed satisfaction over timely completion of investigation, which cleared huge number of pending cases. It was observed that street crime remained a major issue for Rawalpindi City on which the City Police Officer, SsP and SDPOs were directed to work out a proper strategy to control this menace.
