KARACHI: Young worker commits suicide

KARACHI, Sept 9: A 24-year-old man committed suicide on Tuesday in North Karachi, police and witnesses said.

Bilal Colony police said that Khurrum Shahzad, son of Ghulam Farooq, hanged himself from a girder at his house (N-475) in Sector 5-J of North Karachi. He used a cable for hanging himself, they added.

The police said the man was found dead in his room by his family at around 7pm.

The body was shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for a postmortem examination. The medico-legal officer, Dr Salim, told Dawn that the man had committed suicide.

The police said the victim and his father were employed at a printing press. They said the victim was annoyed with his family for the past three days over a domestic issue.

The family, the police said, however, did not say about the nature of the issue.

Killed in accident

A 30-year-old motorcyclist was killed when he was hit by a fast-moving trailer near Masjid-i-Khizra at Gul Bai Chowk.

The Site police said the accident occurred a little before Iftar. The body was shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where the deceased was identified as Shoaib Ahmed, son of Sami Ahmed, a resident of Federal B. Area. He was stated to be a civilian employee of the navy.

The police said that they had arrested the trailer driver, Mohammed Mithal, son of Jan Mohammed, and impounded his vehicle.

Crushed to death

An unknown man was killed on the tracks near Natha Khan Goth by a Lahore-bound train. Hospital sources said the victim appeared to be in his early 30s.
