KARACHI: Gang busted, stolen vehicles recovered

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, Sept 9: Police have arrested two members of a gang involved in inter-provincial car lifting and recovered several stolen vehicles from their possession along with gadgets used for tampering of engine and chassis numbers.

A statement issued by the Anti-Car-Lifting Unit said that they intercepted two suspects, identified as Mujahid and Majid Ali, during a snap-checking on the Super Highway at Toll Plaza and recovered a car (AB-8350) which was stolen from Sharea Faisal police limits and a hi-roof (CS-1386) which was reported stolen in Sachal police jurisdiction.

Police said that the suspects belonged to an inter-provincial gang of car lifters involved in transporting vehicles from Karachi to the interior of Sindh. Police also recovered machines used in the tampering of engine and chassis numbers of the vehicles.

Bandits caught by people

Two bandits were caught red-handed by people near KMC Football Ground in Risala police limits.

Police said the two bandits, later identified as Ram Ji and Ashok, barged into Mohammad Abid’s flat (No 309), located on the third floor of Taqi Centre, at 7pm and held the inmates hostage at dagger-point.

They said the intruders attacked and hurt Mr Abid with daggers when he struggled with them. In the meantime, neighbours gathered outside the residence.

The police said one of the robbers jumped from the third floor and broke his legs. Area people caught the fleeing robbers, the police said, adding that they also beat the suspects before handing over him to the police.

In addition to a case (FIR 220/2008) registered against the robbers for attempting to commit robbery, the two were also booked in separate cases (FIRs 221/2008 and 222/2008) under Section 13-D of the Arms Ordinance for possessing illicit daggers.
