Zardari urged to prove civilian rule can succeed

LONDON, Sept 8: President Asif Ali Zardari must prove that civilian rule can succeed, says British Foreign Secretary David Miliband.

Mr Miliband wrote in a blog entry on Monday that he had held talks on Sunday with Mr Zardari.

He said Mr Zardari should demonstrate that civilian rule “can bring both short-term improvements to Pakistan and longer-term stability”.

Pakistan, he wrote, “is a country of teeming energy, but unfulfilled aspirations”.—AP
