FC Aurora edge past Karachi United

KARACHI, Sept 8: Defender Wali Mohammad’s goal in the final moments of the match against Karachi United gave Football Club Aurora their first win in the KASB Premier League Football (PLF) tournament at the City District Government Karachi (CDGK) Stadium on Sunday night.

The match between FC Aurora and Karachi United Football Club saw the losing outfit’s front runners Danial Alvi, Taha Alizai, Hamad Askari and Abdul Azhar putting on a brilliant show of coordination and teamwork as they battled gamely to go ahead but were unlucky on all occasions as their attempts went wide off target, sometimes bouncing off the poles and tipping off the crossbar.

Meanwhile, FC Aurora kept coming up with counter attacks, their strikers Saddam Hussein, Abdul Rehman, Akbar Shah and Mohammad Ali Nawaz also trying their level best to get a break. However, all their tries were thwarted easily by Karachi United’s goalkeeper Nasir Khan. The score line at the interval was 0-0.

The second session witnessed Karachi United’s midfielder Usman Iqbal and stopper Hamza Khan creating some good opportunities for their team’s strikers but to no avail.

FC Aurora’s skipper midfielder Aminuddin and striker Saddam Hussein missed two more good chances in the 76th and 81st minutes with Karachi United’s goalie Nasir clearing the ball to safety.

But just when it seemed like the match would end in a goalless draw, FC Aurora’s defender Wali Mohammad managed to convert a 30-metre free-kick with a high shot that reached its destination after barely missing Nasir’s head to give Aurora the lead in the 90th minute.

The two extra injury time minutes saw Karachi United’s Danial missing two more good chances to score when both his attempts were blocked by Aurora’s goalkeeper Shabbir Ahmed.

Having lost one (with Karachi Kickers) match and drawn the other (with Shazad Mohammadan) previously, FC Aurora now have four points while Karachi United, who drew the tournament opener with Shazad Mohammadan and lost their second encounter to Karachi Kickers, have one point.
