QUETTA, Sept 8: The Balochistan Bar Association and Balochistan High Court Bar Association have nominated Ali Ahmed Kurd for the post of president of the Supreme Court Bar Association.

Addressing a press conference here on Monday, BBA president Amanullah Baloch and BHCBA president Shakeel Ahmed Hadi said it was the turn of Balochistan to get the post of SCBA president and the two associations had decided to nominate Mr Kurd.

They said that SCBA president Aitzaz Ahsan had played an important role in the lawyers’ struggle for reinstatement of the deposed judges and independence of judiciary and

Mr Kurd also had made an important contribution and, therefore, he should replace Mr Atizaz to continue the struggle.

Mr Baloch and Mr Hadi described the re-appointment of deposed judges as a conspiracy to sabotage the lawyers’ movement.

They said that lawyers had rendered sacrifices in the struggle against unconstitutional steps of the former military dictator and they would not compromise on their demand for reinstatement of the deposed judges, including Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhary.

They criticised political parties, particularly the PPP and said that during the lawyers’ struggle they had promised to reinstate the deposed judges, but after coming to power they had forgotten the commitment.
