MIRPURKHAS: Literacy Day observed

MIRPURKHAS, Sept 8: The Education Department organised rallies in different parts of Sindh on Monday to mark the International Literacy Day.

A rally was taken out here by the employees of Education Department. The rally began from the Government Shah Waliullah Boys High School Mirpurkhas and culminated at the press club.

It was led by the EDO Education Mirpurkhas, Abdul Majeed Hur, while officers of the Education Department, principals, school headmasters, girl scouts and general public participated. Carrying banners and placards, they marched on main roads before reaching the press club.

Abdul Majeed Hur said children should get education keeping in view the necessity of it. Many countries of the world today had gone far ahead of others merely because of education, he said.

He said steps were being taken to get enrolled every child in school by 2015 to achieve the target as per international requirement under millennium development goals (MDGs).

He advised parents to get their children enrolled in schools and said the government would provide free syllabus and also stipend.

In Naushahro Feroze, schoolchildren and teachers led by EDO Education Husun Bano took out a rally from the EDO office to press club. Around 150 children, teachers, district officers were carrying banners and placards inscribed with the slogan: “Education is the best wealth.”

In Shikarpur, a rally was taken out by the Education Department. EDO Education Mumtaz Ali Bhutto led the rally in which a large number of students, teachers and officers participated.

The rally was taken out from the Government High School No.1 and, after marching on Station Road, ended at Lakhi-Gate Tower Chowk.

Similar rallies and walks and other events were organised by the Education Department in other cities and towns of Sindh to mark International Literacy Day.
