KARACHI: Hospital accountant shot dead

KARACHI, Sept 8: Two people were killed on Monday in separate acts of violence in parts of the city, police and witnesses said.

They said a 35-year-old accountant at a private hospital near Hasan Square was shot dead by two assailants on a motorcycle near the railway crossing in the Block 13-B of Gulshan-i-Iqbal.

ASI Manthar told Dawn that the victim, Qazi Mohammed Asif, was being driven to his house in Aisha Manzil, Gulberg, by his younger brother, Qazi Mohammed Ismail, when he was targeted at around 4.30pm.

He said the assailant fired a single shot at the victim, who was sitting on the front passenger seat in the car, and rode away on their bike.

The ASI said the victim’s brother took the fatally injured victim to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Hospital sources said the victim received a bullet wound in his left shoulder and the bullet pierced through his chest rupturing his heart.

The Gulshan-i-Iqbal police registered a case (FIR 490/2008) against unknown culprits under Sections 302 and 34 of the Pakistan Penal Code on the complaint of the victim’s brother.

Body found

The body of a young man was found near Total Petrol Pump in Baldia Town.

The police said the body was spotted at a desolate place at around 7am and it was shifted to the Civil Hospital where he remained unidentified.

Hospital sources said the victim, clad in shalwar-qamees, appeared to be in his early 30s.

They said the victim received a single bullet to the head that went through his skull.

Later, the body was kept at the Edhi Morgue for want of identification.

Hockey star robbed

Unknown thieves took away valuables worth over Rs150,000 from the house of the former captain of the national hockey team, Rasheedul Hasan, in Clifton.

The hockey star told Dawn that he was in Faisalabad on Sunday when the thieves barged into his house and took away the goods.
