Ramazan bazaars start delivering

LAHORE, Sept 7: The number of customers besides the quantity and quality of most vegetables and fruits at the Ramazan bazaars improved considerably compared to last Sunday.

The City District Government Lahore (CDGL) managed to ensure ample supply of onions and potatoes at these makeshift markets by rationalising the official prices of the two vegetables.

Flour was available in almost all such markets at the official price of Rs300 per 20-kilo bag, but number of the buyers was low as the commodity was now easily available at many places.

Vendors continued selling B-grade fruits and vegetables at the price of A-graders. The official prices of onion were fixed between Rs22 and Rs26 per kilo, while at Shadman Link Road and Gulshan-i-Ravi makeshift marts it was being sold at Rs26 per kilo, at Shalimar and Baghbanpura at Rs25 per kilo and at Tajpura and Wahdat Colony at Rs28 per kilo. The vegetable was available in the open market between Rs28 and Rs32 per kilo.

Chicken meat was available in the open market at Rs140 per kilo while its price as fixed at Rs144 per kilo for the Ramazan Bazaars.

The price of new potato was fixed between Rs24 and Rs28 per kilo compared to last week’s Rs20 and Rs24 per kilo, while stored potato prices were between Rs13 and Rs15 compared to last week’s Rs10 and Rs12 per kilo.

Tomato prices were fixed between Rs22 and Rs26 per kilo against last week’s Rs20 and Rs24 per kilo.

China garlic price was fixed between Rs28 and Rs30 per kilo, and local garlic’s between Rs17 and Rs24 compared to last week’s Rs15 and Rs19 per kilo.

Ginger prices registered a decrease and were fixed between Rs57 and Rs62 from last week’s Rs62 and Rs64 per kilo.

Cucumber was missing from most Ramazan bazaars and was available in the open market between Rs50 and Rs60 per kilo as its price was fixed between Rs30 and Rs36 against last week Rs25 to Rs29 per kilo.

Likewise, peas were available in the open market between Rs100 and Rs120 per kilo, while its official prices were fixed between Rs72 and Rs82 against last week’s Rs46 and Rs51 per kilo. Ladyfinger price remained stable between Rs28 and Rs32 per kilo while biter gourd prices went up to Rs28 and Rs32 compared to last week’s Rs31 and Rs36 per kilo.

Green chillies price was fixed between Rs18 and Rs20 per kilo compared to last week’s Rs25 and Rs32, locals lemon between Rs72 and Rs82 per kilo against last Sunday’s Rs44 and Rs60 per kilo and China lemon between Rs42 and Rs62 per kilo compared to previous week’s Rs35 and Rs44 per kilo.

Apple prices were fixed between Rs24 and Rs52 per kilo against last week’s Rs12 and Rs46 per kilo, but it was being sold between Rs30 and Rs60 per kilo. Prices of mangoes ranged between Rs47 and Rs72 per kilo. Banana price was fixed between Rs16 and Rs40 per dozen compared to last week’s Rs12 and Rs32, but it was sold between Rs30 and Rs40 per dozen in the Ramazan bazaars and between Rs50 and Rs80 per dozen in the open market.
