VEHARI, Sept 7: Five people were injured when mud walls collapsed due to torrential rains in 9-11/WB here on Sunday.

About a dozen mud houses and makeshift shops were damages due to rain in the Luddan and Machiwal areas. Those injured were identified Mustafa, Fareed, Tahir, Jahanzaib and Hider.

The rains started on Saturday night and continued for more than 24 hours. The rain water inundated low-lying areas, including 9-11/WB, city area, People’s Colony, Masani Bagh, Danywal, Muslim Town, Luddan, Thingi, Karampur, Jalla Jeem, Tibba Sultanpur, Garah Mor, Chakrala and Pipli Stop.

Weather pundits have forecast more rains in next 24 hours.

The rains also damaged crops besides affecting power supply and telephones. Tehsil Municipal Administration (TMA) officials failed to pump out the rain waters from streets and main roads of the city.
