KARACHI: Two men injured in exchange of fire

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, Sept 7: Tension gripped parts of Gulshan-i-Hadeed on Sunday when two groups exchanged fire wounding at least two people, police and witnesses said.

They said that the groups belonging to two different communities resorted to heavy firing following a clash in the vicinity that left two people injured. The victims were shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre. They are stated to be in a stable condition.

The witnesses said miscreants also put a motorcycle on fire before the police reached the spot and brought the situation under control.

Killed in accident

A 30-year-old labourer was knocked down by a fast moving bus on Mauripur Road.

The body was shifted to the Civil Hospital where the deceased was identified as Bahadur Khan. Police said the man was crossing the road when a coach knocked down him. He died on the spot. The coach driver fled, police said, adding that they were making efforts to track him down.

Encroachment removed

An anti-encroachment operation was carried out in Shah Faisal Town to clear roads, service lanes and footpaths, APP adds.

Hundreds of illegal structures, makeshift stalls, merchandise, furniture, paraphernalia and pushcarts were taken away by staff of the town administration to clear thoroughfares and footpaths in the Main Bazaar No 1 and 3 and around Rafa-i-Aam Bazaar.
