PESHAWAR, Sept 6: NWFP Minister for Sports, Culture and Tourism Syed Aqil Shah on Saturday said that an inquiry would be conducted into a row concerning the spoiled Astroturf surface at Lala Ayub Hockey Stadium.

Laying the turf cost the national exchequer 15.6 million at the time but the surface is still not fit for international hockey, he said.

“Those responsible for the negligence are not to be spared and I intend taking up the issue with the Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) too in order to know the reason behind their giving an okay report to the contractor when there were wrinkles on the turf,” Aqil told APP during his visit to the stadium.

“I wish the stadium be provided with all the required facilities as it carries my father’s name,” Aqil said while instructing the installation of an electronic score board, shifting of the existing commentary box and enhancing of seating capacity.—APP
