GUJRANWALA, Sept 6: The district coordination officer (DCO) has suspended transfer orders of 69 female teachers issued by the education EDO and later the EDO was also removed apparently on the recommendation of local elected representatives.

According to sources, EDO Javaid Malik had transferred 69 female teachers of different government primary, elementary and secondary schools from city to far-flung areas in the district. The families of these teachers approached MPAs of their respective constituencies and demanded cancellation of the transfer orders.

However, the EDO declined to cancel the transfer orders upon which these MPAs contacted education department high-ups. Later, the DCO intervened and cancelled the transfer orders. In the meantime, Malik was also removed from his slot.

Muhammad Riaz has been appointed new education EDO who assumed the charge of his post immediately.

MURDER: A landlord was gunned down allegedly by his rival over a land dispute in Chehal Kalan village in Qila Deedar Singh police precincts on Saturday.

Abdul Khalid Awan was on his way to his outhouse when one Pervaiz intercepted him. They had an argument followed by a scuffle. Pervaiz later shot at Awan, killing him on the spot. The police registered a case.

BISE: The Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISE) on Saturday issued roll number slips to candidates of secondary school supplementary examination, 2008, and directed them to contact board office in case they had not received roll number slips by Sept 11.

BISE Chairman Muhammad Akram Chaudhary said that a control room had been established to help out candidates and they could contact it through phone number 9200750 during office hours while 055-3024052 at night.

He said that control rooms had also been formed at all tehsil headquarters to monitor the supplementary examination commencing from Sept 13.

TRACTORS: The Punjab government has started a green tractor scheme under which 10,000 tractors with Rs200,000 subsidy per tractor would be given to farmers, said a handout issued here on Saturday.

Farmers have been asked to get prescribed forms against Rs250 from the office of revenue district officer while Sept 15 is the deadline for submission of forms.

ARRESTED: The Garjakh police claimed on Saturday to have arrested two suspects wanted in murder of a boy and an extortionist and seized unlicensed weapons from them.

SHO Mian Khurram Shehazad said that Sher Muhammad and Muhammad Afzal allegedly killed Zeeshan while Shahid, alias Shahidi, used to receive extortion money (jagga tax) from citizens. DIG Zulfiqar Ahmad Cheema praised the performance of police team.
