Fast Track eyes hat-trick at Racecourse today

By Anwar Zuberi

KARACHI, Sept 5: With two impressive wins under his belt, three-year-old bay colt Fast Track eyes hat-trick when the Gymkhana race meeting takes place at the Karachi Racecourse on Saturday.

Promoted to top division of class VII following his facile ten-and-a-half lengths victory in the Independence Day meeting under Nasir, he looks fancied to overcome the opposition yet again particularly colt Sayeen Jee.

Though Fast Track has beaten Sayeen Jee by three lengths on May 25, the two come across each other to renew their rivalry. They are likely to be chased by Arab Hi Arab.

The Karachi Race Club (KRC) has brought forward the races by a day to coincide with the Defence Day. Three cups aimed at paying tribute to war heroes of Pakistan armed forces are part of the day’s proceedings which begins at 12.30pm.

Three-year-old bay filly Blossom with rich credentials has bright chances to land The Defence Day Cup to be run over six furlongs. She has claimed The Gold Finger Cup posting a five lengths’ victory under Tariq Baran last weekend.

Mare Stormy Kiss and filly Diamond In Dust comes in the reckoning for the places.

Three-year-old bay filly Moomal should make amends by claiming The Nishan-e-Haider Cup with 10 horses in contention for the glory barring last minute withdrawl.

They are likely to be followed by Manan Prince and Sahibzadi.

Seven horses will face the starter at the starting gate in the 4 ½ furlongs The Kargil Hero’s Cup, which is the third race on the card. The race is restricted to two-year-old colts and fillies.

There’s no selection as three horses are to make their debut.

Five-year-old bay Invazor who claimed his maiden win on last Sunday is poised to make it two on the trot should he win the opener while filly Sweetie Pie should repeat the winning feat in the next to complete hat trick. Having placed twice, four-year-old Ace Of Base should atone for the loses by overcoming the field in the fifth race.
