KARACHI, Sept 5: The Pakistan Swimming Federation (PSF) has short-listed the probables and shifted the training camp for the upcoming Commonwealth Youth Games from Islamabad to Karachi.

“Eight boys and six girls have reached Karachi on Friday and resumes their training at PNS Karsaz pool from Saturday,” secretary of the PSF Majid Waseem told Dawn from Islamabad.

He disclosed that 17 swimmers including girls have recently undergone 10-day strenuous training under the supervision of British coach David Hemming from Aug 21-31 at Islamabad.

He said the federation was willing to hire a foreign coach for an Olympic cycle (four-year) and David’s visit was part of it.

“We are forwarding our proposal to the Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) and Pakistan Sports Trust (PST) for necessary approval,” he said.

During his stay in the country the British coach besides meeting officials, watched the players in action and saw the system.

He said the probables who are U-18 will be inducted into the senior team upon their return from India for the SAF Games preparations.

Probables:

Boys: Shahbaz Khan, Mazhar Naqvi, Aneeq Anwar, Bassir Hasan, Abdul Rehman, Osama Qazi, Khizer Kamran and Ghulam Mohammad.

Girls: Aqsa Tariq, Rida Sabahat, Alia Mehdi, Ghulam Sakina, Hoor Israr and Eesha Khan.

Coaches: Akhtar Zaib, Shumal Khan, Mumtaz Ahmed and Veena Masud.
