Fresh currency notes

KARACHI, Sept 3: The State Bank of Pakistan has decided to provide fresh currency notes to general public before Eidul Fitr.

“With a view to facilitating the general public in obtaining fresh currency notes, the central bank has decided that all its field offices and commercial banks’ branches will issue one packet each of Rs5 and Rs10 denominations to one person once during the holy month on production of original CNIC along with a copy of it,” the SBP said on Wednesday.

The SBP field offices had started issuing fresh notes from second day of Ramazan, while commercial banks would provide fresh currency notes from 7th of Ramazan till the last working day before Eidul Fitr, or until the stock ends.

The Commercial banks will also issue fresh notes of other denominations to their account holders and clients as per their transactions and the stock position. The State Bank has made arrangements for ensuring adequate supply of fresh notes for use in ATMs.

“These steps will help eliminate the black marketing of fresh currency notes during Ramazan and ensure their availability to general public throughout the country,” the SBP added.
