Farmer killed in baton charge

SUKKUR, Sept 2: The Pano Akil police have registered a case against three police officials, including an SHO, after death of a farmer in police baton charge on Monday.
Hundreds of growers had gathered outside the Mukhtiarkar office for getting slips to purchase fertiliser. In the meantime, some of the farmers quarrelled with the police. When the scuffle intensified, police resorted to baton-charge as a result of which Ghulam Sarwar Jatoi received injuries. He was taken to Pano Akil taluka hospital where he, according to Dr Nazir Shaikh, died of head injuries.
Later hundreds of farmers, along with relatives of deceased, carrying the body, staged a sit-in outside the local police station. They shouted slogans against the police and demanded registration of a case against them.
The sit-in continued for about six hours after which DIG Sukkur Bashir Memon ordered registration of case against the police officials.
An FIR under sections 302, 34 and 114 of the PPC was registered against Pano Akil SHO Haji Masood Mahar and police constables Sanaullah and Ghulam Rasool. However, no arrest was made.
COUNTER CASE: After registration of a murder case against SHO of Pano Akil police station along with two constatbles, police have registered a counter case against 485 Jatoi clansmen on Tuesday, on the charges of blocking the National Highway, causing hindrance in official duty and brandishing arms.
The case was registered vide crime No 209/2008 against 485 Jatoi clansmen, out of which 85 are nominated, while 400 were declared unidentified.
According to Pano Akil police station official, those nominated included Ali Nawaz Jatoi, Ali Murad Jatoi, Ghous Bux Jatoi, Ghulam Mustafa Jatoi, Mir Zaman Jatoi and others, but no arrest has been made so far.
GIRL KILLED: A man killed his teenaged daughter with the help of his brothers over suspicions she had illicit relations with somebody in the Waryam Unnar village near Mirpur Mathelo on Tuesday.
Reports said that Ali Murad Unnar with the help of his brother put his daughter Hajra, 14, to death, suspecting her of having illicit relations with one Ali Gul Malik.
Late Hajra’s mother Ms Sharifan told police that her husband and his brothers Shahmir and Shahnawaz were involved in killing her daughter. Police did not register a case, nor made any arrest till the filing of this report.
CANAL BREACH: A large number of mud-thatched houses in Ali Abad village caved in when Dangro Wah developed a 40-foot wide breach near Ghotki early on Monday morning.
Reports said that water gushing from the breach washed away household items, stocks of grain and other valuable belongings.
Villagers Mohammad Farooq Buriro, Mumtaz Buriro, Mour Pitafi and Ellahi Bux Dhondho told local newsmen that irrigation officials did not come to their rescue in time despite being informed of the breach.
Director SIDA Sarwar Shaikh reached the village followed buy other irrigation officials and helped the villagers plug the breach.
The affected villagers complained to the director about negligence of irrigation officials and the director immediately suspended sub-engineer Sadaruddin Mahar, Darogha Amanullah Soomro and Beldar Sarwar Lakho.
