LAHORE, Sept 1: Fancied bay horse Charismatic showed might and power in winning the feature event during the day/night Lahore Summer Meeting at the Racecourse on Sunday evening.

The two to one chance five-year-old Charismatic, who is one of the fastest horses at the local turf, sped from the front-running pack to collar filly Miss Liza in the last 300 metres of the 1,200 metres race and defeat her by over three lengths.

Favourite filly Born To Win could hardly get third place in a small field of seven runners.

The win was his first during the on-going season in three starts. Riding boy Naseer Ahmed rode Charismatic in a flawless attempt. This was a class four handicap race and the sixth and last of the day.

A race earlier, grey filly Lucky Cat, owned by Lahore Race Club steward, Malik Hamid Ali Noon, clinched the supporting event, a class five handicap race over 1,000 metres. Former champion trainer, Haji Fazal Hadi trained Lucky Cat beat roan colt Emperor by a big margin of over five lengths. Bold Act came third.

Three-year-old colt Punjabi stormed to a brilliant victory in the fourth race. In spite of going wide when the horses turned their heads for the straight, the son of Bedouin Invader out-of-Fantastic Cute came strongly on the outer tan to win by a grand margin of seven lengths to win acclaim as the best performer of the day. His 11 opponents looked no patch on him and were seen staggering far behind. Victory Hero, Nishat Malook and High Jet completed the frame. Owned by Chaudhry Mohammad Qasim, Punjabi was ridden by jockey Shahid Rehman for his third successive win in five starts to date.

In yet another fine performance of the day, the highly bred colt, Great H proved really great winning the third race. Owned by Junaid Rashid Rana, Great H registered his maiden victory defeating Brave Heart by over two lengths. Rough Tough finished third while erratically-handled gelding Blue Fire with Fareed Ali in the saddle completed the frame. Ironically, LRC stewards took no notice of this glaring pull.

Jockey Shahid Rehman, riding boy Naseer Ahmed and trainer Allah Bakhsh Malik shared day’s racing honours returning home with a brace of winners each.

Shahid Rehman’s double was excellent. He rode Great H and Punjabi in the third and fourth race for Bakhsh when a card of six events was gone through during the day/night racing, the last before the advent of holy month of Ramazan. Five races were contested over 1,000 metres and one over 1,200 metres.
