Women’s burying alive condemned

Published September 2, 2008

LAHORE, Sept 1: Women’s rights activists held a demonstration to protest the burial of five Balochi women and subsequent statements uttered by Senator Israrullah Zehri who had sought to downplay the incidents.

About 20 activists belonging to the South Asian Women in Media (SAWM) group and the South Asian Free Media Association (Safma) chanted slogans like “We don’t heed the way of tyranny”, “Talibanisation is unacceptable”, and “Arrest the killers of women” outside the Lahore Press Club here on Monday.

Veteran activist Shahtaj Qizalbash described the killers as “inhuman”, adding: “Where in the world can you pick up five women and bury them alive? Where does this happen?” — Reporter
