World Bank experts help Wasa cut water losses
By Our Reporter
RAWALPINDI, Sept 1: World Bank (WB) consultants on Monday offered their services to the Water and Sanitation Agency (Wasa) for reducing water losses in the city to ensure round-the-clock supply of drinking water while utilising the available sources.
The WB experts on a three-day visit to Rawalpindi would come up with a methodology for Wasa to reduce line losses by identifying faults in the water supply networks, replacement of pipelines, unaccountable water and water theft in various areas of Rawalpindi.
WB consultant Brian Campbell on Monday visited many areas in the city along with Wasa managing director Lt-Col (retired) Islamul Haq and extended his full support for putting an end to the lingering issues of water theft and water losses.
It is to be mentioned here that about over 40 per cent of water in the city is going to waste due to line losses and water theft, which not only affects the revenue targets of the civic body but also leads to acute water shortage, particularly in summer season.
Wasa is suffering Rs100 million losses annually, however, the WB proposal would enable the civic body to ensure both water supply and revenue generation.
