KARACHI: Ibad says LG system not being abolished

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, Sept 1: Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad has categorically stated that the local government system will not be abolished and that no proposal in this regard is under consideration.

“There is no proposal (under consideration) to abolish the local government system forthwith. Some changes in it are, however, being considered to make the system more effective,” he said while talking to newsmen after inaugurating a newly-constructed section of the University Road on Monday.

The governor said that any decision regarding amendments to the local government system would be taken in consultation with all coalition parties.

In reply to a question, he said that the financial problems being faced by the country and the Sindh province would not affect the ongoing development projects in Karachi. “We are trying to speedily complete the projects as any delay would result in an increase in their costs,” he added.

He said that the government would take measures to check price hike during Ramazan.
