KARACHI: Man killed by wife’s brother
By Our Staff Reporter
KARACHI, Sept 1: A 25-year-old man who married a woman without the consent of her parents six months ago was shot dead in Moch Koh by his wife’s brother and the latter’s friend, police and witneses said.
The police said Wajid Iqbal Awan, son of Javed Iqbal Awan, was killed near Peela School in Qaimkhani Colony at around 9.30am when he was going to a court for obtaining bail before arrest in a case lodged by his father-in-law with Baldia Town police for kidnapping the woman, Asma, daughter of Sultan Tanoli.
ASI Zahid Hussain Unnar told Dawn that the 28-year-old brother of the woman, Niaz Mohammed Tanoli, and his friend, Rashid Pervaiz, had fled the scene on their motorcycle after the attack, but a police patrol, headed by Sub-inspector Fayyaz, reached the spot immediately and arrested the fleeing suspects near a graveyard in Gulshan-i-Ghazi.
He said the victim was a resident of Shah Mohallah, Islam Nagar, in Baldia Town, while Asma was living with her parents in Rashidabad, a nearby neighbourhood.
The police official said the victim had been absconding since his in-laws lodged the kidnapping case of their daughter against him.
He said the two suspects were booked in the murder case (FIR 224/2008) under Section 302 of the Pakistan Penal Code on the complaint of the victim’s father.
The victim’s father told the police that his son was to appear before a court for obtaining bail in the kidnapping case. He said the suspects chased the victim who was on foot and pumped bullets into him.
ASI Unnar said the two suspects were also booked in separate cases (FIRs 225 and 226/2008) under Section 13-D of the Arms Ordinance for carrying weapons without licences.
The body was shifted to the Civil Hospital for a post-mortem examination before it was handed over to the victim’s family.
Hospital sources said the young man received four bullets, two in his chest and one each in right armpit and throat, from a very close range.
Meanwhile, a 35-year-old man was found stabbed to death in his rented house at Mohammed Hussain Goth in Block M of North Nazimabad.
The police said the victim, Syed Mohammed Rashid Bukhari, son of Syed Mohammed Ahmed Bukhari, was living alone in the house for the past six to seven months.
The police said the fatally wounded man was shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where he later died during treatment.
