Villagers foil bid to take away boy

By Our Correspondent

THATTA, Aug 31: Local people foiled a police bid to pick up a boy after overpowering an ASI and two policemen in a village near Ghora Bari on Saturday night.

However, four hours after the incident, the DSP of the area reached the village and got the policemen freed.

A police party in plain clothes reached Bukera village near Ghora Bari in a private car and tried to take away the boy, Gul Zaman.

When the boy started screaming for help, villagers gathered there and got him freed and held down the policemen. The villagers thought that the men were dacoits and were trying to kidnap the youth.

Later, the villagers held a sit-in on Ghora Bari-Pir Patho road in protest against the incident.

DSP Mohammad Hussain along with a police contingent reached there and assured the villager that legal action would be taken against the irresponsible police officials. The villagers reopened the road after the assurance.

The people of Bukera village reached Thatta Press Club and told journalists that the in-charge of Pir Patho checkpost, Zahid Khoso, and some others had stormed their village along with some influential people of the area.

They said they escaped when the villagers reached the spot.

The protesters claimed that the influential people were harassing them and they called the Thatta DPO to provide protection to the villagers.
