Wapda brush aside Navy

Lahore, Aug 29: Faisalabad-born Jamshed Anwar helped Wapda gain three points as the holders brushed aside Navy 1-0 in the Pakistan Premier Football League (PPFL) clash at Garhi Shahu Railway Stadium, Lahore on Friday evening.

Jamshed slotted home the all-important winner with an angular drive from the edge of the area, beating keeper Ishaq Ahmed, in the 53rd minute.

The first session saw both teams put up an unimpressive display without any goals being scored.

Jamshed’s goal in the second half could have followed another by spearhead Zahid Hameed but Qamar Zaman’s cross to him, which he drove towards the goal, ricocheted off the cross bar.

Navy came close to levelling in the 69th minute but their midfielder Farhan Qadir failed to beat Aziz, Wapda’s keeper.

Saturday’s fixtures: Pak Elektron Limited v Pakistan Television at Railway Stadium, Lahore; Punhab Medical College v Army at PMC Ground, Faisalabad. Matches kick off at 5.30pm.—Agencies
