LAHORE, Aug 28: Fancied bay horse Umar Prince swept to an impressive victory in the feature event during the day/night midweek Lahore Gymkhana races at the Racecourse on Wednesday evening.

The 70 to 100 favourite, ridden by riding boy Naseer Ahmed for trainer Liaquat Ali, led from the onset to win the 900 metres race unchallenged.

He defeated dark-bay gelding Black King by five-and-a-half lengths with Victory King third, about two lengths further back. Eight ran after the last minute withdrawal of Amazing Mission and Sohna Billoo from the contest. This was the sixth and last event of the card and a class VI division I handicap race.

A race earlier, four-year-old filly Aaja Bulbul posted a five-length victory in the supporting event for trainer Azhar Ali. Ridden by Khalid, Aaja Bulbul, who was beaten to second place in her last outing, made amends by winning the race in a close contest between the first three. She defeated filly Dream Memories by one and a half lengths. Coming from the leading Lahore stable of Sohrab Khan, Dream Memories edged out Geo Bhakkar to third place at the finishing line.

Dark-bay colt Cash Price beat Muskan by over a length to win the fourth race. Bagh-o-Bahar finished a close third.

Bay gelding Delux, caused the biggest upset of the day’s card in the third race. He beat chestnut Changer by six lengths showing vast improvement over his last run when he finished fourth, eight lengths behind the winner under ill-reputed riding boy M. Atif. On Wednesday Delux led all the way under Fareed Ali. Golden Falcon and Boby Love made up the frame. This time M. Atif partnered Golden Falcon.

Bay colt Kiss Of Love prevailed over his eight rivals to pick up the spoils in the second race. He defeated the mare Anarkali by a length, who lost because the underfoot conditions did not suit her. Sana My Love finished third.

Dark-bay filly Pretty Karina, named after a Bollywood actress, found the going comfortable to win the first race. She was overwhelming choice of the race-goers against Leader’s Wing, beaten by wilful bad riding of M. Atif. Once in front the Racecourse echoed with shouts applauding Pretty Karina ‘s strides.

Riding boy Naseer Ahmed, who is under training of leading jockey Shahid Rehman, showed a touch of his master riding home two winners in Kiss Of Love and Umar Prince in the second and sixth race, respectively.
