ATTOCK, Aug 28: Additional District and Sessions Judge (ADSJ) Attock has ordered medical examination of an under-trial prisoner in Attock district jail after he accused the jail officials of manhandling him.
According to sources, an under-trial prisoner, Hashim, lodged a verbal complaint with the additional district and sessions judge, Attock, when he was produced before the court to attend the hearing of his case. Hashim alleged that he was thrashed and manhandled by the jail officials for no reason. He argued that legal action should be taken against the accused.
Taking note, the court directed the medical superintendent, Attock jail, to carry out medical examination of the prisoner and submit medico-legal report to the court as soon as possible for further legal proceeding, the sources said.
It has also been learnt from reliable sources that the jail medical officer in his report, after preliminary checkup of the injured prisoner, has confirmed that there were bruise marks on his body.
It may be mentioned here that some days ago, Hashim had climbed up a tree in the jail to protest the alleged harsh attitude of the jail authorities toward him. He warned that he would commit suicide by jumping off the tree if the officials did not stop torturing him. However due to the timely action of the jail superintendent, he was safely brought down.
51 PRISONERS RELEASED: District and Sessions Judge, Attock, Mohammad Tariq Abbasi on Thursday granted bail to 51 under-trial prisoners, involved in petty cases, on personal surety bonds during his monthly jail inspection visit.
Jail Superintendent, Attock, Syed Babar Ali and Jail Medical Officer Dr Shah Mohammad Ali were also present on the occasion. All the prisoners were released from the jail. The district judge stressed on the need to provide the best available facilities to the jail inmates during their imprisonment.
He also visited various jail departments including juvenile ward, hospital, kitchen and women cell and inquired about the facilities and problems.
security enhanced: Law enforcement agencies have enhanced security throughout the district in wake of Sunday’s bombing of CD/video shops, according to a press release issued here on Thursday.
District Police Officer (DPO) Fakhar Sultan Raja held a meeting with the security and administration officers of various defence installations and projects of national importance, including Pakistan Aeronautical Complex (PAC) Kamra, Pakistan Ordnance Factories (POF) Sanjwal, Ghazi Barotha Hydropower Project, cement factories and oil and gas exploratory firms.
The meeting was informed about a security plan devised by the local police for the safety of the employees and technicians of these concerns amid a new wave of terrorism.
The administrations have been asked to deploy extra security personnel around respective working and residential areas, besides restricting the entry of any outsiders into their compounds.
Private vehicles should not be allowed inside the premises, while strict check should be kept on the visitors. Use of walkthrough scanners and Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) systems at all entry points was also recommended. The administrations were advised to raise parameter walls up to 10 feet with proper fencing to avoid any unauthorised entry.
The police asked the companies in which foreign nationals were working to inform the police in advance about the personnel’s movement outside the secured zones. Similarly, proper security should be provided in case of their visits to markets and other public places.
