25 killed in Bajaur

KHAR, Aug 27: At least 25 people were killed and 30 others injured in attacks on several areas in Salarzai and Nawagai tehsils of Bajaur Agency on Wednesday.

Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) put the casualty figure at 36 killed and 40 injured.

Three helicopters and a plane bombed the villages of Chargorai, Kotkai, Bookandaw and Raghagan in Salarzai for more than six hours.

According to local people, at least 11 militants were killed when a bunker was hit in Bookandaw, 30kms from here. The shelling of Chargorai and Raghagan also left some suspects dead.

Nawagai tehsil’s Ghundo, Enzari, Zorbandar, Kotki, Chaharmang and Kamangara villages also came under intense bombardment throughout the day.

Sources said that three members of a family were killed when a shell hit their house in Ghundo and another civilian was killed in Enzari. Another four civilians and five foreigners were also killed.

HOSTAGE KILLED: The body of Subedar Ghausuddin of Bajaur Scouts, who had been taken hostage along with his 15 colleagues a few days ago, was found in the Mamadgat area on Wednesday.
