Comparisons with Bradman absurd, says Tendulkar

MUMBAI, Aug 27: India’s greatest batsman Sachin Tendulkar on Wednesday brushed aside any comparisons with the legendary figure of Sir Donald Bradman and described the Aussie as ‘unmatchable’.

Tendulkar, one among 12 players to be named in the International Cricket Hall of Fame captained by Don Bradman, said any suggestions that there were similarities between their styles of play were absurd. “I don’t think so. He was too great a batsman. It was awesome to get a compliment from him in 1998 which is by far the best I’ve got.”

Referring to Tendulkar during the Indian cricket team’s 1998 tour of Australia, Bradman had told his wife that he found this ‘Little Bonzer’ playing just like him. He later invited Tendulkar to his home in Adelaide the same year.

On India’s last tour to Australia in December 2007, Tendulkar was also invited for a first look of the Bradman Museum, to be unveiled at the Sydney Cricket Ground on Wednesday. “It was fabulous to visit the museum. The icing on the cake was to get to hold Bradman’s bat. It felt terrific. It was a very different experience, completely unique. After all, how many people have held a bat which Bradman actually played with?” said Tendulkar.
